How can she hook up the boy of her dreams with the girl of his?
The only thing worse than not being able to tell your best friend you’re head over heels in love with him? Having to smile and nod when he enlists your help to ensnare the girl of his dreams.
Braylen didn’t even want to go to Lennon Pryor’s epic graduation-night party, but when Fynn begs her to be his “wingwoman,” she can’t deny him. Talking up her BFF—how he’s magic behind a camera, with a killer sense of humor, and eyelashes that frame the most gorgeous blue eyes in the history of forever—is easy. Supporting his efforts to woo someone so completely wrong for him? Not so much.
Fynn knows that grad night is his last shot to find true love before leaving for college. And thanks to Bray, he gets his chance with the beautiful Katy Evans. But over the course of the coolest party of their high school careers, he starts to see that perhaps what he really wants has been in front of him all along. Bray’s been his best friend since kindergarten, though, and he’d rather have her in his life as a friend than not at all.
I am a huge fan of friends to lovers stories so of course I went crazy when I first read the blurb of this book. I was like “heck yeah! Sign me up!”. And let me tell you something, it definitely was worth getting extremely excited over. It is just SO CUTE. Gah!
Do you know the cliché “friends to more” story where the characters refuse to tell each other they have more-than-friends-feelings because they don’t want to put their friendship at risk so they’d rather them be happy with someone else? Well, if you’ve been living under a rock and have never heard/seen something like that then you need to pick up Love In The Friend Zone because that is exactly what happens with Fynn and Braylen. Only in this case Fynn supposedly only loves Braylen as a friend—don’t bullshit a bullshitter, my friend—plus he is completely oblivious to Braylen’s feelings toward him PLUS he has a crush on someone else. One sided love makes it all more exciting—for us, not for poor Bray.
I’m very picky when it comes to these type of stories because it is hard for me to find a story that has the perfect amount of build up to be enjoyable. I often find that it drives me up the effing wall when characters take things snail-slow and also when they rush into things as if it were a race.
That said, I’m giving Molly E. Lee a standing ovation right now because she wrote a book with the perfect build up—in my opinion, at least. Not once throughout the book did I find myself skimming through the pages or felt like I should jump inside the book to knock some sense into the characters. I was so into the story that I read every single point and comma put on my path.
Love In The Friend Zone is a very short read that will make you fall head over heels in love with Fynn and Bray’s friendship.
It will also leave you craving for more when it comes to other characters in the story. I can’t wait to read the next book in the Grad Night series.
What more is there to say? I love this book so much and I need for y’all to read it so we can gush over it together. So read it!
